The female is strenuously embraced and acts out signs of fear, but at the same time devotion. The Apache reached its highest level of acceptance in the early 1900's in France when it was popular among the upper class to go "slumming" or to enjoy watching the Apache. Many ladies died by breaking their necks performing the Apache as they attempted to cash in or make a name for themselves in its popularity.
